About this event

Applying to university is an exciting step, but understanding the UCAS process and knowing how to present yourself effectively can sometimes feel overwhelming. This virtual session is designed to help students navigate the application journey with confidence, providing clear guidance on each stage of the process and practical advice to help strengthen university applications.

During the session, we'll explain how the UCAS application process works, from researching courses and selecting your university choices to understanding key deadlines and submitting your application. You'll gain an insight into what universities look for when reviewing applications and learn how different elements of the application work together to create a complete picture of you as a prospective student.

A major focus of the session will be the personal statement. This important part of your application allows you to showcase your enthusiasm for your chosen subject, demonstrate your suitability for higher education, and highlight the experiences that have helped prepare you for university study. We'll explore how to approach the personal statement effectively, helping you identify the skills, achievements and experiences that admissions teams value most. Students will learn how academic interests, extracurricular activities, volunteering, work experience, wider reading, and super-curricular engagement can all contribute to a strong application.

We'll also discuss common mistakes applicants make and provide practical tips on how to communicate your strengths, motivations, and future aspirations clearly and effectively. The session will also explore ways to prepare for the application process well in advance, helping students build confidence and make the most of opportunities that can support their university aspirations.

Whether you're just beginning to think about higher education or are ready to start your application, this session will provide valuable guidance and reassurance throughout the process. By the end of the session, you'll have a clearer understanding of the UCAS journey, know what universities are looking for in applicants, and feel better equipped to create a strong and compelling application. There will also be opportunities to ask questions and receive advice from higher education professionals who support students through the university application process each year.
