Work with us
The Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare is expanding.
In addition to the posts we advertise regularly, there are also opportunities for graduate students, clinical academics, and non-clinical academics within the Centre. If you would like to work with us, please browse the opportunities and contact us via empathy@le.ac.uk with any questions or to discuss.
Where we are seeking to build capacity
The Centre is developing and delivering evidence-based empathy training to medical and healthcare students and professionals. Our activity is research-inspired education, so those interested in medical education as well as medical research could be interested.
There are several streams to our research and teaching including:
- Empathic communication skills
- “Walk a mile in your shoes” (giving students and healthcare professionals vicarious experiences of what it is like to be a patient)
- Creative health (creative writing and performative activities)
- Embedding real patients into the design and development of all healthcare training
- Evidence-based wellbeing
- Using AI and virtual reality to assist with teaching (and, where it works, assisting with patient care)
PhD students
We will soon be offering PhDs in Evidence-Based Empathic Healthcare.
- Self-funded PhD
- Part-funded PhD (contact us at empathy@leicester.ac.uk)
- Medical Research Council (MRC) PhD
- Wellcome Trust PhD
Master’s students
We are able to provide projects and supervision for students undertaking a research dissertation as part of a Medical Education Master’s degree, either at the University of Leicester or other institutions. Please contact us at empathy@leicester.ac.uk.
