Leicester Oral History Archive

This collection features a series of recordings with members of Leicester City FC's 1949 team who reached the final of the FA Cup that year. There are also several interviews about boxing, a few memories of amateur cricket in Leicester, and recollections of sports associated with large companies.

'Leicester Rugby, Leicester People'

This oral history collection comprises 2 Sound effects from rugby matches and 7 interviews of individuals with an interest or association with rugby in the city of Leicester. Recordings were conducted in 2015 by Leicester museums for the ‘Leicester Rugby, Leicester People’ Project. Watch the video here.

Special Olympics Collection

This oral history collection comprises 28 interviews, five of these interviews do not have audio and are transcripts only. The interviewees are people connected to the Special Olympics in Great Britain, many of whom competed or worked on the Leicester Special Olympics in 2009. Most of the interviews were conducted by Su Barton.

Taking Part

This oral history collection comprises 19 interviews with sports people in the Melton District. The interviews were conducted by Colin Hyde in 2008-2009 and cover both men and women from a range of sports, both amateur and professional. Subjects covered include family, sports clubs and their administration, changes seen in sport, competition at local, national and Olympic levels.
