Diwali

Diwali

Join in the festivities taking place on campus and in the city to celebrate Diwali.

Diwali, also called Deepavali, is the Festival of Lights, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists. The timing changes each year with the Hindu Lunar calendar, and in 2026, Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November.

  • Celebrate Diwali with a packed programme of events on campus throughout November.
  • Enjoy everything from Kirtans and Rangoli to Diya painting, treats and the annual Diwali ball.
  • Join celebrations across Leicester and discover more about the Festival of Lights.

Diwali is often celebrated over five days, but events are taking place from late October to mid-late November.

Don't miss - Celebrate in style at the Roshni Ki Raat annual Diwali ball. All students are welcome, just follow the Leicester Hindu Society on Instagram for the latest updates.
