Teaching and Assessment

Studying away from campus doesn't mean that support is far away. Our experience in this kind of delivery means you can expect a strong network of support from a team of dedicated tutors and administrative staff.

The distance learning MBA allows you to take advantage of our suite of e-learning materials, blending multimedia content with more traditional-style readings, all available online via our virtual learning environment, Blackboard. This will give you online access to materials to support each module, discussions forums hosted by module tutors and chat rooms where you can network with fellow students. You will communicate with your tutor and fellow Leicester MBA students via online lectures and seminars. You will be expected to attend one to two online lectures or seminars per week.

You will be invited to attend our annual residential summer school held on campus at the University of Leicester. This week-long programme of lectures, activities and workshops, and careers advice takes place every July/August.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a combination of exams, assignments, collaborative projects and a 15,000 word dissertation.  Exams are usually held in the UK on a Saturday (exam days in other countries may vary). Elsewhere, we offer one exam centre free of charge in each country. If you do not live close to the designated exam centre then we can arrange for you to take the exam in a local city for a nominal administrative charge.

Distance Learning

Online learning is an important feature of this course, therefore it is essential that you have reliable, regular access to the internet (preferably with a broadband connection) in order to participate.

As a distance learning student, you will have access to the University Library's electronic service, the Leicester Digital Library, which includes a large number of e-journals and e-books.

If you live close to Leicester you can, of course, visit the Library in person. For UK-based students who wish to use other libraries, we can issue you with a card which allows you to do so. This is a national scheme which allows distance learning students to borrow material from up to three other participating libraries.

Entry Requirements

A first or second class honours degree (or equivalent) from a recognised institution.

In addition, you must have at least three years’ relevant work experience in a supervisory, managerial or professional role.  We also encourage applications from managers with nine to ten years of relevant experience but without formal qualifications, or those who have completed the University of Leicester's Diploma in Management or Professional Diploma in Management (no longer running).
