The Centre for Landscape and Climate Research

NERC Knowledge Exchange Fellowship

Dr Sarah Johnson role is jointly funded by NERC and the Satellite Applications Catapult. The fellowship aims to support commercial companies working with data from Earth Observation satellites, enabling them to connect better with UK academics and researchers.

Based at the Centre for Landscape and Climate Research, the satellite applications Knowledge Exchange fellowship will be focusing particularly on the areas of agri-tech (e.g. food security) and energy (e.g. risks to infrastructure).

By working with the Satellite Applications Catapult and tapping into the expertise of NERC scientists, the fellowship will be able to help commercial companies improve their services based on satellite datasets and overcome technological challenges to service provision.

The benefits extend not just to commercial companies but also to academics who will benefit from new research projects and new lines of research. It is hoped this will help grow research groups as well as improving the impact ratings of existing groups.

Knowledge exchange between industry and academia is at the heart of NERC’s strategy. This important fellowship will make a big contribution to satellite applications arising from NERC research.
