Sustainable synthesis and catalysis

The capacity to generate selectively molecules for medicines, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and materials underpins much of science and the research themes within the School of Chemistry. By exploring chemical reactivity, we develop new strategies for the efficient construction of known molecules and new synthetic methods that enable access to undiscovered molecules with unique and highly desirable properties. Mechanistic understanding is integral to our design allowing us to control reactions, use less hazardous reagents and produce less waste. In addition, we create new catalytic platforms to provide greener, more sustainable reactions.
