Archaeology and Ancient History at Leicester is home to a world-class, international team of scholars engaged in cutting-edge research and teaching.

Archaeology and Ancient History at Leicester has long been in the vanguard of both archaeology and ancient history research in the UK. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) we placed 5th in the UK for overall research quality (GPA) out of 24 submissions (according to analysis by Times Higher Education).

 

Our laboratories

We have a set of well-equipped laboratories for in-house scientific archaeology teaching and research, including dedicated labs for bones, osteology research, advanced microscopy, ceramics, X-ray, an advanced archaeological computation suite and more.
