How we're making a difference
Embracing Diversity at Leicester
Embracing Diversity at Leicester
At the University of Leicester, we are committed to ensuring that all our students and staff feel welcomed, valued, and empowered during their time here.
Our 'Embracing Diversity' guide is a collaborative project between the University and the Students' Union, and shares a unique perspective of Leicester's diverse culture to help you settle into your new city. We hope that it serves as a useful introduction to the representative groups and other support systems in place for you during your time here.
Explore our recommendations for places to eat, shop, and socialise - as well as places of worship and prayer rooms, safe spaces, and local facilities.
Henrietta O'Connor, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor
At the University of Leicester, we are exceptionally proud to have fostered an inclusive learning, research and work environment that attracts students and staff from across the globe.
Each of our students brings with them a wealth of diverse lived experiences and identities, that enrich both our University community and the city. The strength of our community truly comes from your diversity.
That’s why we’re steadfastly committed to making sure the University of Leicester is a place where diversity is celebrated, and where no one is excluded on the grounds of any aspect of their identity. Of course, disadvantages and barriers will always exist, but we will tackle these directly and with transparency, engaging with our staff and student communities to address issues with respect and dignity.
I hope this guide helps to show you how committed the University, and the wider city, is to inclusivity and celebrating the broad range of identities we have here in Leicester. Because diversity makes our community stronger, and I hope you feel it is a place where you truly belong.
