Biological Sciences

Leicester is globally recognised for its excellence in genetics, the discovery of DNA fingerprinting and the DNA identification of King Richard III. However, our world class research covers the breadth of the biological and medical sciences and our flexible degrees are designed to reflect this. 

You have a choice of Biological Sciences programmes, which cover major aspects of biology and molecular science across a breadth of organisms, from bacteria and fungi to humans and plants. Or choose one of our Medical Biosciences programmes, which offer specialist modules focussing on the application of biological principles to medicine. 

For most programmes there is a the option of taking a three year BSc or extending your studies by taking the equivalent MBiolSci. The MBiolSci adds a fourth, research-intensive year to your degree. We also offer a Foundation Year, which provides a gateway to all our BSc and MBiolSci programmes.
