RichardDegree: BA Sociology
Year of Graduation 2004

Studying at the Department of Sociology, University of Leicester has provided me with the skills, knowledge, and experience to embark upon an academic career.

I came to the University of Leicester in 2000 as a mature student and studied for Sociology, where I gained a 1st Class Honours degree. Due to the support I received from staff, I was successful in applying for ESRC funding for post-graduate study. This allowed me to undertake the MSc in Social Research, which I gained a distinction and followed up with a PhD.

Studying at the Department of Sociology, University of Leicester has provided me with the skills, knowledge, and experience to embark upon an academic career. Since graduating from my PhD, I have held a lectureship post at Nottingham Trent University and a post-doctoral fellowship in the Centre for Urban History, University of Leicester. I now hold a lectureship in the Centre for Labour Market Studies at the University of Leicester. My current position allows me to continue my research, publish, and to teach undergraduates and postgraduates from around the world.
