Department of Respiratory Sciences
School of Respiratory Sciences research contributed to several strong UoAs in REF2021
We are delighted with our recent performance in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF2021). Staff from Respiratory Sciences were split across a number of REF2021 UoAs with the majority being submitted to UoA 1 Clinical Medicine (9 staff) or UoA 5 Biological Sciences (7 staff).
We were placed second in the UK for our overall research quality (GPA) out of 31 submissions in UoA 1 Clinical Medicine (according to analysis by the Times Higher Education).
In addition:
- 95% of the research in Clinical Medicine was judged to be ‘world-leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*)
- 90% of the real-world impact of research in UoA 5 Biological Sciences was judged to be ’outstanding’ (4*) – the highest of any UK HEI in this Unit
- 100% of the research environment for UoA 5 Biological Sciences was judged to be ‘world-leading’ (4*) or ‘internationally excellent’ (3*)
