The Department of Respiratory Sciences (incorporating Infection, Immunity and Inflammation) has a thriving community of approximately 25 research groups. Our research community has focus on 4 main areas. Our Department is committed to providing an excellent working environment for all staff, students and visitors, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation, we are the proud holders of an Athena SWAN silver award.

The department is led by Professor David Cousins who is assisted by deputy Professor Galina Mukamolova.

The Department operates over several locations and benefits from close links with the NHS.

Facilities

We have excellent facilities for research with well-equipped laboratories. As part of the College of Life Sciences, we have access to a range of shared facilities: Core Biotechnology Service (CBS) provides items essential to the modern researcher.

Teaching

Our teaching community (including a group of teaching focused academics) contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate taught degree courses, particularly within the School of Biological Sciences. We also host a large postgraduate research community of doctoral students performing research towards achieving a PhD.
