Profile
I received a BEng in Software Engineering, along with an MSc and a PhD in Computer Science. My expertise bridges the latest computer science technologies and practical challenges.
Previously, I served as a Research Fellow in Computer Vision within the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, a Research Associate in AI and Imaging in the School of Computing and Mathematical Science at the University of Leicester, and a Data Analyst in the School of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Behaviour at the University of Leicester. In addition to my academic roles, I have over ten years of industry experience working as a Senior Software Engineer, Senior IT Development Officer, and IT and Data Support Specialist.
My career integrates academic research, teaching, and professional practice across AI, computer vision, imaging, modelling, optimisation, and software engineering. I enjoy helping students see how ideas from different fields interconnect. By combining research insights with hands-on case studies and project-based learning, I strive to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and innovation.
Research
My research focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence and Computational Intelligence across interdisciplinary fields, including transportation, healthcare, archaeology, business, energy, electric vehicles, and the creative industries. I am particularly keen on bridging theory and practice through AI, optimisation, and machine learning within interdisciplinary contexts, aiming to provide practical solutions that tackle societal, industrial, and creative challenges.
Current topics include:
- Energy Systems & Electric Vehicles – optimisation of microgrid management, vehicle-to-grid scheduling, and battery charging using meta-heuristics, swarm intelligence, reinforcement learning, and multi-agent systems.
- Healthcare & Medical Imaging – developing AI-driven solutions for medical image analysis, clinical automation, and large-scale healthcare data analytics.
- Gamification & Creative Industries – exploring the use of AI, optimisation, and interactive technologies to support creative practices, user engagement, and innovative digital experiences.
- Generative AI & Multi-Agent Systems – investigating novel architectures for creativity, simulation, optimisation, and collaborative problem-solving.
