Dr Ellen Hatch

Lecturer in Medical Education

Profile

I have been at the University of Leicester since May 2021. Previous to this I was the Course Director for BSc. Pharmacology at Coventry University.

I hold a BSc. In Biomedical sciences specialising in Pharmacology and MSc Molecular genetics and PhD in Pharmacogenetics from Newcastle University. I have experience of teaching and student supervision in a range of Biomedical subjects at level 4-7 and course management at a number of Universities within the UK.

My other roles include academic support tutor, PPDG Medical School representative and a member of the assessment team. I am a member of the British Pharmacology Society, British Society for Immunology and the UK Stratified medicine group.  I am a qualified mental health first aider.

Research

My PhD was in personalised medicine specifically investigating the tailoring of dose to an individual's genetic and personal profile. This is an area I still have a keen interest in and one of the areas in which I teach. As an early career researcher I worked in many fields, including renal immunology and dermatology and have a wide range of technical experience.

I have established collaborations with both Newcastle and Coventry University. I have a particular interest in Mitochondrial damage, oxidative stress and the use of antioxidants to prevent damage including off target cardiac damage.
