University of Leicester School of Business secures Small Business Charter reaccreditation for five years
The Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) has granted the University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB) a five-year re-accreditation of its prestigious Small Business Charter award, after a rigorous re-assessment visit in September 2024. The report to the SBC Management Board from the independent panel of assessors demonstrated ULSB’s significant expertise against all 30 application dimensions.
The SBC award recognises UK business schools for playing an effective and impactful role in supporting small businesses, engaging with stakeholders and the local economy, and encouraging student enterprise and entrepreneurship.
The breadth and impact of ULSB on SMEs, the community and its students were described by the panel as being a credit to the School and broader University evidencing that ULSB plays an important and holistic role in supporting the SME infrastructure within Leicestershire. It was highlighted that the impact is extraordinary and wide ranging with much of the coordinated activity underpinned by strong academic research, providing fertile ground for creating impact and growing industrial relations.
The panel was particularly impressed with the University’s ‘Partner Open Door’ initiative and the significant role it plays in creating strong links with internal and external stakeholders and the wider East Midlands business ecosystem.
Incorporating delivery by SME leaders within the Help to Grow: Management alumni events agenda was also highlighted by the SBC team, as was championing the need to support the voluntary, charity and social enterprise sector through the School’s highly successful and innovative Growth Accelerator for Social Entrepreneurs programme.
Professor Daniel Ladley, Head of College and Executive Dean of the University of Leicester School of Business, said: “I am proud that the University of Leicester School of Business (ULSB) has maintained SBC accreditation for a further five years. This is a testament to the continued impact our University has on businesses, students and the community. We have seen, through initiatives such as Help to Grow and our Growth Accelerator for Social Entrepreneurs programme, the valued role that we have in the business ecosystem and the impact on SMEs and social enterprises. As our mission states, ‘Through inspirational business education and world-leading research, we seek to change society for the better’ and this is clearly demonstrated by the continuation of our SBC accreditation. We look forward to continuing to work with partners to deliver lasting impact in our regional economy.”
