University of Leicester celebrates success of ‘China Roadshow’
A group of delegates from University of Leicester have completed a tour of China to inspire future student enrolment from the country.
University of Leicester representatives travelled to five cities in China, engaging with an estimated 80 students over one week.
As part of the trip, University of Leicester also strengthened its partnerships with Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.
University of Leicester delegates included:
- Professor Tilly Blyth, Head of School of Museum Studies
- Dr Sarah Gong, Associate Professor in Media and Communication and Dean of Internationalisation
- Dr Ade Oyedijo, Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management
- Dr Kal Karim, Professor of Organic and Computational Chemistry
- Dr Matias Ruiz, Lecturer in Applied Mathematics
- Rob Crane, Assistant Director (Business and Partnerships)
- Tracy Li, Associate Head of International (China and Africa)
University of Leicester also founded its first Chinese Alumni Chapter for graduates living and working in the country. The University has a community of approximately 200,000 international alumni.
The trip follows on from the successful trip of University of Leicester President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nishan Canagarajah in 2023.
Future Students Office has 3 staff permanently based in China for University’s student recruitment in the region. Besides this, the University also have staff based in Panjin and Chongqing for our cooperative educational institution (Leicester International Institute at Dalian University of Technology) and cooperative educational programme with Chongqing Medical University. Dr Sarah Gong, Dean of Internationalisation at University of Leicester said: “The China roadshow was an important opportunity for us to re-engage with the Chinese market since the pandemic. We were thrilled that we met our students, parents, alumni, agents and partner institutions in person for the first time in China since 2019. I want to thank FSO China team for their amazing efforts to make this happen.”
