Enhancing research and impact through collaboration
National event at Leicester brings together international Rutherford Fellows to celebrate interdisciplinary research.
The Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies is set to welcome researchers from more than 20 countries to explore the future landscape of interdisciplinary research.The event, ‘Interdisciplinary Futures: Enhancing research and impact through collaboration’, hosted at College Court, will be attended by international Rutherford Fellows currently based at institutions across the UK.
The Fellows, funded by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) are all highly skilled researchers from around world. They will also be joined by representatives from BEIS, Universities UK International and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
Professor Lisa Smith, Director of the Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies said: “Interdisciplinary research is at the heart of addressing complex challenges and achieving impact. This event provides an opportunity for Rutherford Fellows from across the UK and a diverse range of disciplines to come together and explore how interdisciplinary approaches can enhance their research projects and careers.”
The event will include interactive workshop sessions to enable networking and communication between fellows, and the development of new research collaborations beyond their fellowship programme.

The Leicester Institute for Advanced Studies is an interdisciplinary centre of excellence. Dedicated to creating a collaborative and inspiring environment, it brings together researchers from across all disciplines to deliver ambitious, transformative and impactful research.
The Institute currently hosts three Rutherford Fellows. Drawing on expertise from across disciplines, our Rutherford Fellows are all contributing to the overarching theme of resilient, inclusive and sustainable cities. They are currently working with academics from across the University to tackle global urban challenges and empowering cities to drive change.
