Movember on campus raises funds, awareness and smiles

Students and staff at the University of Leicester have raised nearly £7,000 for men’s health causes. Throughout November about 120 ‘MoBros’ and ‘MoSistas’ raised money for the annual Movember campaign through a range of activities, mostly growing sponsored moustaches.

On Friday 29 November, a Moustache Parade and Prize-Giving was held in the Students’ Union. Vice-Chancellor Professor Nishan Canagarajah judged the moustaches on show, along with Ady Dayman from the BBC Radio Leicester breakfast show and Patrick Ward from our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team.

Prizes were awarded for Best Student Moustache, Best Staff Moustache, Best Effort, Most Money Raised and Best Team Photo.

Among the groups taking part were the hockey, rugby and cricket clubs and teams from Lasdun hall and the Physiotherapy degree.

The total raised, as of Monday 2 December was £6,706.20 (including some loose change in the collecting tin). Well done to everyone who took part.

Donations to teams and individuals can still be received via the pages linked from the University of Leicester page.
