Leicester leading Varsity

As the sporting heroes of Leicester’s universities take to the field for a second week, the University of Leicester looks set to once more take home the Varsity trophy.

The scores are in and Leicester is in the lead with 25 points to De Montfort University’s 10 points, correct as of the end of Monday 12 March.

But it’s still all to play for as the Varsity series continues into Wednesday 14 March, with the competition capped off by the rearranged rugby matches on 30 April.

More than 60 teams of students are competing in nearly 30 sports over eight days to be eventually crowned Varsity Champion – a title that the University of Leicester has won every year since records began in 2000.

This year, University of Leicester and Leicester Students’ Union invite everyone to ‘be part of it’ by joining the crowds at any of the more than sixty games taking place at venues across the city, including football, netball, basketball, tennis, badminton, squash, cricket, swimming, hockey, American football and cycling. The familiar homes of legendary Leicester sports teams will be the backdrop for many of the games, including the Leicester Tigers stadium on Welford Road and the Leicester Riders Arena.

Tickets for the rearranged Men’s and Women’s Rugby on Monday 30 April and Varsity wristband packages can be bought from SHOP! on campus and the Students' Union reception, and through the Tigers ticket office.
