Festival celebrates schools volunteering project
A year-long volunteering project that has seen 30 members of the University delivering weekly sports sessions to eight primary schools has concluded with a celebration on campus.
More than 100 primary schoolchildren, from five local primary schools came onto campus, to take part in the Leicester Academy Festival day.
The Festival celebrates the achievements of all those involved and provides the young students from a Widening Participation background to experience ‘a day in the life of a student’. In total, 22 Leicester Academy volunteers helped at the Festival, creating a positive and engaging atmosphere for the young people, inspiring them to take up sports and attend university in the future.
The day included an orienteering challenge around campus as well as playing rounders, UV sports and Zumba.
