Scholarship opportunities in Museum Studies
The School of Museum Studies is once again offering a suite of Scholarships to those who are interested in pursuing a career in the museum and heritage sector.
Scholarships are open to applicants for either postgraduate diploma or master’s programmes who will be commencing their studies in autumn 2018.
Two Open Scholarships of £3,000 each are open to all new applicants beginning their campus-based or flexible learning programmes in autumn 2018.A further four ‘Diversity Scholarships’, each of £3,000, are open to UK applicants from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the UK museum sector, including people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, applicants identifying as disabled, care leavers, carers and people from lower income households.
The initiative forms part of the School’s long-standing commitment to support the diversification of the UK’s museum workforce. The scholarships schemes are part of a collective of linked initiatives focused on different aspects of diversity and equality in order to actively foster an inclusive environment.
The School of Museum Studies also holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award, and are currently working in partnership with the Equality Challenge Unit on a national pilot to increase the number of UK students recruited from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.
Director and Head of School Dr Sandra Dudley said: “We are thrilled to once again be offering a suite of scholarships, including those reserved for people from backgrounds under-represented in the UK museum sector.
“Workforce diversity is a key priority in the museum sector at the moment, with people from some backgrounds still significantly underrepresented. We hope that these scholarships, alongside other diversity initiatives, will go some way to supporting the future diversification of our sector.”
The deadline for all applications is 30 June 2018.
