Refugees and asylum seekers offered chance to find out about higher education opportunities

Refugees and asylum seekers are being offered free advice on how to access higher education in the UK on Thursday 22 February.

The event is intended to help refugees and asylum seekers to better understand processes for applying to a Higher Education institution in the UK.

Phil Horspool, from the University’s English Language Teaching Unit and Chair of the University of Sanctuary steering group, said: “As we seek to become a University of Sanctuary and offer refugees and asylum seekers opportunities to join the University community, we have found that many do not understand the procedures and processes involved in applying to a UK university nor what to expect if offered a place.

“Here, at Leicester, we would like to offer our expert support to those thinking of Higher Education and help refugees and asylum seekers navigate their way to further opportunities.”

The event is organised by the Leicester University of Sanctuary steering group and the Widening Participation team. It takes place on Thursday 22 February from 5.30- 7.30pm on the main University of Leicester campus, Bennett Building, Room G85.
