University of Leicester launches international Pathways programmes
The University of Leicester is launching three international year 1 programmes in August as well as a STEM International Foundation Year from September.
The STEM International Foundation course will offer students a route into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) subjects at undergraduate level, providing an ideal opportunity for those who may not have obtained the points they need for direct entry onto the undergraduate degree or who need greater time to prepare for UK education.
A typical offer for a student wishing to undertake the foundation year course is lower than the requirements to go straight onto the full degree course. Successful completion will allow progression onto the first year of an appropriate degree.
In addition, the University is also creating a host of International Year 1 degree courses to provide enhanced support, starting with four weeks of intensive English language and academic skills development, before they begin their academic modules.
Support will continue throughout the first year with the emphasis on equipping students with the skills needed to succeed in their studies. Successful completion will allow them to progress to the second year of their degree programme. These programmes are also aimed at students who are not able to gain direct entry into year 1.
All new year 1 courses will be jointly run by the College of Business and the Centre for International Training and Education at the University.
For 2025 entry, the University of Leicester will be offering the following to international students:
STEM International Foundation Year
International Year One Marketing
International Year One Business and Management
International Year One Human Resource Management
Phil Horspool, Director of the University’s Centre for International Training and Education (CITE), which already offers a range of free modules, lectures and workshops to meet the needs of international students studying at Leicester, said: “We’re incredibly excited to launch these new Pathways, which will open doors for so many undergraduate students hoping to study here in our vibrant and diverse community.
“We hope that by providing these opportunities for students who may not quite have met the standard entry requirements, or who need an extra level of assistance to start their educational journey in the UK, we can get them onto the right path to enjoy a great career.
“The courses will ensure they have the best support in place and are fully prepared for future study so they can hit the ground running on their chosen degree.
“At Leicester we pride ourselves on being part of a global community of staff and students from over 150 countries. These courses are an integral component of the University's offering, taught on-campus and offering a wealth of academic and pastoral support to ensure students reach their true potential and settle into student life in the UK as smoothly as possible.”
To enrol on the STEM International Foundation Year or International Year One programme, you must be an international student who qualifies for overseas fees status for higher education in the UK.
