Welcome to our first students from Dalian!
The University of Leicester has welcomed its first group of students from the Leicester International Institute (LII), Dalian University of Technology (DUT) in China.
The LII students were welcomed at a reception by President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Boyle, along with the LII’s English Dean, Professor Eric Hope.
Opened in September 2017 in partnership with DUT, the LII gives Chinese students the chance to study for University of Leicester degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry in their own country. The group of 28 students has just completed the first year of their degree programmes and are in Leicester to participate in the English for Engineers and Chemists International Summer Programmes. These three week courses, offered by the University’s English Language Teaching Unit, aim to improve students’ academic and general English as well as incorporating laboratory sessions, a research project and a social programme.
Professor Hope commented, “We are delighted to welcome the first group of LII students to our campus in Leicester. This marks a significant milestone in this partnership and we hope that many more students will follow in the future, either to study similar short courses or to work towards their degrees alongside on-campus-based students here in Leicester”.
