Alex Lloyd, a Medical student and platinum sports scholar at our University, has been selected by British Fencing to represent Great Britain at the European under-23 Championships in Yerevan, Armenia from the 15-19 April.
Alex is recognised at senior men’s level, and has recently received confirmation that he has been chosen for the British Senior Team, who will compete at the World Cup in St Petersburg, Russia- taking place on Friday 4 May 2018.
Alex said: "I have worked hard this season with my strength and conditioning trainer Mark Simmons at the Danielle Brown gym and the successful University fencing club. I have also recently started training in Italy with Lorenzo and Paolo Paoletti, coaches to some of the best fencers in the world.
“I look forward to implementing new areas into my game at the forthcoming European Championships. I am very grateful to the scholar programme for their fantastic support this season".
Steve Bayley, Sport Experience Officer (Performance) at Leicester, added: “Alex is extremely proud of his two Great Britain selections. The staff who work with him at Leicester are conscious of his potential and ability in the Foil discipline and will be following the results closely in the coming days from the European under-23 competition in Armenia.”
