Sustainable development roadshow offers opportunities to local businesses

The University's School of Business will host a free, public event seeking to encourage growth in local business on Tuesday 9 May.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals Roadshow will feature local business people explaining how they are aligning their business activities and strategies with the UN Global Goals as well as panel sessions explaining how businesses can get involved with the Global Goals.

Uwe Lübbermann, Founder and Main Moderator of Premium Cola, a German collective with a unique business model and sustainable business practices, is the keynote speaker for the event and he will be joined by academics from the University as well as local business leaders.

The Global Goals, adopted by the UK and the other 192 Member States of the United Nations, provide a path to end extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and protect the planet. The Goals also offer business a tremendous new growth strategy and an opportunity to rebuild trust with society.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals Roadshow is part of a series of events taking place between 8 and 11 May, inspired by responsibility and sustainability in business practice:

  • On Monday 8 May the School of Business will host a screening of Ken Loach’s award-winning film, I, Daniel Blake.
  • On Wednesday 10 May the Dean, Professor Zoe Radnor will host the School of Business Dean’s Lecture. The lecture will be presented by Dorothy Francis, mentor, advisor, CEO of the Co-operative and Social Enterprise Agency (CASE) and an alumni of the University of Leicester.
  • On 11 May keynote speaker Dr Atul Shah will present the accumulation of thirty years' research within the Jain community unravelling the secrets to their wide and sustained success in finance at the event ‘Smart Money? Faith, Ethics, Finance in a Globalised World’. This will be followed by Dr Mohamed Shaban's lecture about his inspirational research investigating the role of Islamic finance within the financial structure of small and medium enterprises.

All events are free and open to staff, students and the general public.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals Roadshow will take place between 13:00 and 18:30 on Tuesday 9 May in the School of Business, Ken Edwards Building at the University of Leicester.

The event is open to the public and free to attend, although pre-booking is required.
