Leicester technicians shortlisted for Papin Prize awards
Two technicians from the University’s Department of Engineering have been shortlisted for national Papin Prize awards.
The awards recognise the skills, talent and experience of technicians who have demonstrated excellence in their field, across the UK and Ireland.
Julian Jones, Mechanical Laboratories Manager, is nominated in the Infrastructure category.
Vinay Patel, Mechanics of Materials Experimental Officer, has been shortlisted in the Research category.
Named after Denis Papin, a 17th century technician who was one of the first technicians to publish in his own name, the Papin Prizes recognise the invaluable role played by technicians in Higher Education, and nominations have been made by students, staff, collaborators and alumni from across the UK and Ireland.
The awards will be announced at the Higher Education Technicians Summit 2017 (HETS 2017)– hosted by the Midlands Innovation Universities, in partnership with the Science Council – at the University of Warwick on 31 May 2017.
