Academic visits Pakistan to discuss defence and nuclear technology

Dr Andrew Futter (pictured) from our School of History, Politics and International Relations recently visited Islamabad, Pakistan to engage in dialogue with potential partners for the University and discuss defence and nuclear technology.

During his visit he gave two talks: the first on ‘Missile defence in South Asia’ at the Strategic Vision Institute and the second on ‘Emerging technologies and South Asian nuclear order’ at the Centre for International Strategic Studies.

Dr Futter also held meetings with representatives of the National Defence University and Quaid-i-Azam University further to establish institutional cooperation between our universities.

Dr Futter said: “This visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss research plans with colleagues in the region, particularly on issues of peace and security in South Asia, and hopefully marks the beginning of much closer institutional cooperation between Leicester and several leading universities and think tanks in Pakistan.”
