Leicesters Hospitals signs Memorandum of Understanding with China
Leicester’s Hospitals has entered into an important Memorandum of Understanding with the Nantong University Affiliated Hospital, China. The agreement intends to promote cooperation in medical research, training and education between the two institutions.
The new deal further expands and develops an existing relationship, following the establishment of a Sister Renal Centre between Leicester and Nantong last year and a joint PhD programme established by our University three years ago. Other medical specialities and nursing will now be added to the programme.
At the signing ceremony, Professor Nigel Brunskill, Director of Research and Innovation at Leicester’s Hospitals and Professor Jianlin Gao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Nantong University and President of the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of both parties.
Professor Brunskill, who is Professor of Renal Medicine at our University, said: “In July of this year, Professor Gao visited the University of Leicester and Leicester’s Hospitals to discuss the terms of this agreement which is an important step towards greater research and training collaborations across the international medical community.”
After signing the contract, Professor Brunskill and Professor Jonathan Barratt, Mayer Chair in Renal Medicine at the University and consultant nephrologist at Leicester’s Hospitals, spent 10 days in the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University and took part in a range of teaching activities, including lectures, clinical bedside teaching and case discussions.
