Chevening and Commonwealth Shared Scholars share experiences of Leicester

The International Office organised a reception on 16 March which was attended by the Vice-Chancellor and President of the University Professor Paul Boyle for this year's recipients of both the Chevening and Commonwealth Shared Scholarship schemes.

The Chevening scholarship has expanded this year; the University currently has 11 Chevening scholars, as well as 3 recipients of the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship.

As well as Professor Boyle, the awardees, who are international PGT students, also met with representatives from the Departments of Economics, Criminology and Geography, and the International Office

Some of the scholars shared their experiences of the event:

  • “The lunch reception provided a great opportunity to network with fellow Commonwealth scholars and also Chevening scholars.” – Irene Nailain Nkumama (Commonwealth Shared Scholarship awardee)
  • “Leicester - the perfect place that motivates you to dream big!” – Harsh Daga (Commonwealth Shared Scholarship awardee)
  • "If I need help with anything, there's always someone ready to help within minutes, I never thought a university could care so much about its students until I joined the University of Leicester. Choosing to study at Leicester was one of my best life choices ever." – Danielle Maroma (Chevening scholarship awardee)
  • "I'm very proud of Leicester, hopefully one day Leicester would be proud of me." – Jiabin Guo (Chevening scholarship awardee)
