University at Cheltenham Science Festival
The Department of Physics and Astronomy, in conjunction with the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), is exhibiting at the Cheltenham Science Festival this week from 7 to 12 June 2016.
The exhibit highlights both Space and Earth Observation research at the University and within NCEO as well as highlighting degree courses at the University.
Cheltenham Science Festival attracts many thousands of visitors including KS2 and KS3 pupils and their teachers.
The Leicester exhibit includes a full scale model of the Mercury Imaging X-ray Spectrometer from ESA’s Bepi-Colombo mission to Mercury and the flight spare EPIC camera from ESA’s X-ray Astronomy XMM-Newton mission (both instruments being led by the University) alongside an NCEO exhibit on the their EO-detective competition associated with Tim Peake’s mission to the International Space Station and an exhibit on the planet Earth as viewed from Space.
The Festival will also be used to promote the University of Leicester as a place to study and for research.
