Launch of unique forensic courses at Leicester

New forensic courses are to be launched at our University and will be the first of their type in the UK.

The postgraduate courses are housed in the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit and Imaging Unit, global pioneers in the field of post-mortem computed tomography imaging.

The following three courses are being offered:

•       PG Cert Post Mortem Radiology for Natural and Forensic Death Investigation

•       PG Dip Post Mortem Radiology for Natural and Forensic Death Investigation

•       MSc Post Mortem Radiology for Natural and Forensic Death Investigation

Professor Guy Rutty, Chief Forensic Pathologist, said: “It is critical to have courses such as this to enable future autopsy practitioners to develop postgraduate skills for practice within the field. It is unique in that it covers both natural and unnatural death imaging, mass fatalities and identification as well as practical imaging skills and techniques and how to set up and run a service."

Professor Bruno Morgan, Lead Forensic Radiologist, added: “It is really exciting to finally offer this course, having developed experience and teaching material from interpreting hundreds of post-mortem investigations over the last 10 years, firstly as part of research projects with learning from autopsy control, and now also as part of service to our communities.”
