Leicesters 2016 studentbuilt race car set for Silverstone

Students at the University are set to unveil the newest model of their very own Formula Student race car to the public on Friday 8 July.

The official launch event will take place from 6.00 - 8.00pm at the Henry Wellcome Building and will showcase the most recent model of the student-built Formula Student race car that the students hope to compete in the Formula Student competition at Silverstone.

This year’s car includes full carbon fibre bodywork, lightweight chassis and an improved, more powerful drivetrain than the 2015 model, and its mechanical parts have also been anodised red to match the team’s colours.

The event will also provide the opportunity for attendees to ask members of the racing team questions about their roles in the team and their route to developing the 2016 racing car model.

If the students get the green light following a final scrutineering process, they will be all set to race their student-built car in multiple events at Silverstone on 14-17 July as part of the international Formula Student competition.

Prior to the formal competition the students will gear up for the big event by putting their car to the test at the MIRA testing facility on 28 June.
