Attenborough Arts Centre winner at the Excellence in Tourism Awards for the second time

The Attenborough Arts Centre is thrilled to be the winner of the Leicester and Leicestershire Excellence in Tourism Awards 2015, under the Access for All category for a second year.

The award, granted by Leicester Shire Promotions and VisitEngland, celebrates organisations that provide high value access for all visitors, particularly disabled people and those with access needs.

Michaela Butter, Director of Attenborough Arts Centre, said: “We are delighted to have been given this award two years in a row. It is a tribute to my wonderful staff and their dedication and commitment to increasing access for all to our many events, activities and performances. This month we open our large new galleries to the public for the first time, and this award will inspire us to reach even more people.”

The arts centre will soon have a £1.5 million new gallery with 300 square metres of exhibition space and double height ceilings. This will be one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the region and a major new asset for Leicester. The gallery has been funded generously by over 1,000 public donations, Arts Council England and the University of Leicester.

The public is invited to support the award-winning work of the Attenborough Arts Centre by contributing to The Breaking Barriers Appeal, which will ensure ongoing opportunities for even more people and help fulfil Richard Attenborough’s original vision to improve access to the arts for all.
