Political Legacies of Conflict in Northern Ireland
Module code: PL3122
The Good Friday Agreement, signed in 1998 and effective the following year, may have brought an end to the Troubles. However, it didn't bring an end to the turmoil and division within Northern Irish politics. In this module, you will look at the political legacies of the Northern Ireland conflict post-1998.
You will look at truth and reconciliation processes, including the contributions of government and civil society. You will critically engage with academic debates on the politics of victimhood - crucial to understanding a conflict where all sides harbour significant grievances. In addition, you will evaluate post-conflict political and social developments in Northern Ireland.
