Foundations of Professional Practice in Healthcare
Module code: OP1005
This module will provide you with the foundation to develop your professional practice. The scope of professional practice includes, professionalism, the principles of care, evidence based practice and inter-professional working. These topics will be developed further in years two and three of the course. In this year one module you will actively demonstrate these skills in clinical practice, supported by a mentor. This will be fostered by reflection and the internalisation of professional values.
A system of personal development planning tutorials will engage and support you in developing your skills. You will be introduced to the principles of evidenced based practice, governmental legislation and all aspects of National Health Service (NHS) governance and its application to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards of proficiency and performance, conduct and ethics. You will appreciate how this ensures patient and personal safety and you will explore the use of evidence to support this process.
(In order to complete this module, students will also need to engage in a period of elective clinical placement and an element of additional self-directed learning.)
