Professional Development: elective/internship in midwifery
Module code: MW3013
This module is an exciting opportunity for you to undertake an elective or internship placement in a clinical practice, education, leadership or research setting. An introductory lecture will launch the module and outline the organisation of electives and internships. A number of internships negotiated by the programme team will be available and you will be supported in arranging elective experiences for yourself, following the appropriate University policy/guidelines and those of the Professional Statutory Regulatory Body: the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You will also construct and negotiate a learning contract/scheme of work which will guide your experience and enhance your personal and professional development.
Assessment will take the form of an oral presentation to peers, where you will critically assess the value of your elective or internship placement, reflecting on the experience through the lens of a midwifery leader and alongside your professional development plan.
By undertaking this module and successfully completing the assessment to demonstrate you have achieved the learning outcomes, will enable you to also obtain the Leicester Gold Award, supported by the university’s Career Development Service.
