Strategic Human Resource Management

Module code: MN3102

The module provides theoretical and practical insights into how Human Resource Management (HRM) can be deployed to influence overall organisation strategy. You will be enrolled in a live business simulation game where you are required to make strategic decisions on a weekly basis throughout the semester. Our simulation game allows you to work individually and as a team to make strategic decisions that will enable you to see the link between HRM and overall business strategy. You will learn how to resolve conflicts, manage stakeholders, and appreciate the financial and non-financial decisions that organisations make to improve HR operations, support ethics, and sustainability agenda.

Teaching and learning go beyond the classroom as you will work independently and meet regularly with your team to review and agree on your team’s weekly business decisions. Your team will be competing with other groups (who are members of your class) and the collective decisions of all the teams will form the weekly live market average. Ideally, you will want your team to perform at market-average levels or above. However, this may not always be the case. What do you do to resolve this? Our Strategic Human Resource Management module will provide you with critical insights into understanding organisation dynamics and HR's role in supporting business outcomes.
