A labour market in its basic form is the supply and demand of jobs and workers. Labour markets are shaped by many different factors: changing technologies and skills, employment regulation, welfare and education systems, and economic and political conditions. Labour markets can be local, national or international in scope and are increasingly fast changing. 

The module will introduce you to the latest research on important labour market developments and debates in the UK and internationally. Each week a different lecturer will present their current research on an aspect of labour markets. While topics vary from year to year, examples of themes the module covers include: the impact of new technologies such as the platform economy, discrimination such as racism and sexism, precarious employment and government policy on training and skills.
