In this module you will explore the issues of managing people as a strategic organisational resource. You will examine recruitment, selection, performance management, and employee engagement. The evolving role of HRM in competitive environments is emphasised and people management is positioned as central to organisational success.
You will be guided through the theories and concepts associated with human capital, motivation, and employment relations and you will analyse HR practices in organisational contexts, and explore contemporary challenges such as diversity and workforce flexibility. You will also examine the alignment between HR strategy and business objectives.
The module will help you to understand how HP practices support organisational performance and culture and you will develop the analytical skills to assess workforce policies. The use of case studies illustrate real-world HR decision making. Integrated throughout the module are ethical and legal considerations.
You will consider the global dimensions of people management and cross-cultural challenges, and reflect on employee wellbeing and engagement strategies. The impact of digital HR systems is discussed and by the end of the module you will appreciate HRM as a strategic partner in organisational development.
