The Business Environment

Module code: MK1001

This module explores the issue of how external forces shape organisational strategy and business performance in national and international contexts.  You will examine political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental influences on organisations.  The dynamic nature of global markets is a central theme.  The module develops awareness of uncertainty and complexity in modern business environments.

You will be guided through the theories and concepts associated with macro- and micro-environmental analysis, including PESTLE, industry analysis, and stakeholder frameworks.  You will learn to evaluate competitive forces and institutional pressures.  Analytical tools are applied to real-world case studies.  The interaction between organisations and their environments is critically assessed.

This module will help you to develop strategic awareness and contextual intelligence.  You will enhance your ability to interpret environmental data and assess risk and opportunity.  Critical thinking is encouraged when evaluating global trends such as digitalisation, sustainability, and geopolitical change.  The module supports informed and responsible decision-making.

You will consider how organisations adapt to environmental turbulence and regulatory change.  You will explore globalisation, market integration, and the role of supranational institutions.  Ethical, cultural, and sustainability considerations are embedded throughout.  By completion, you will understand how the business environment shapes strategic choices and long-term competitiveness.
