Company Law

Module code: LW7145

This module examines the international regulation of companies from a theoretical and comparative perspective. In the era of globalisation and market interdependency, companies have been transformed into something radically different than what they were during the previous decades and centuries. A comparative study of different corporate structures and regulatory frameworks is essential in order to have a complete idea and understanding of corporate law internationally.

The module considers the evolution of corporate cultures, corporate forms and core corporation law concepts in different regions of the world, namely the European Union, the United States, Asia, particularly Japan and China, Africa and other developing countries. The law of the United Kingdom will be used as a point of reference for the discussion of some topics, given the long tradition that the country has in the area of corporate governance and company law regulation. Particular attention will be given to the existing financial status quo as well as the concurrent global, economic and social circumstances.
