Screen Gothic

This module examines the nature, appeal and significance of varieties of the Gothic on the screen, from the Gothic horror film of the 1930s to post-millennial Gothic style. The module covers television as well as cinema but focuses on the Gothic on film and its relationship with the horror film and the other modes and sub-genres from the fantastic to the ghost story. We assess the distinctions that have been made within the Gothic, studying topics such as female, queer, and American Gothic.
