Integrated Engineering Design

This module gives you the opportunity to work in teams to both design and test an engineering system, but also to take part in a simulated business activity to learn how engineering decisions influence the profitability of businesses.

Engineers work in teams to design a product that both meets a technical need and is a viable commercial product, offering value for money. This means engineers must be able to design integrated systems and appreciate how their design choices influence the cost of such systems.

Your Design Teams will be made up of Design Engineers on different engineering courses (Aerospace, Mechanical, General, Electronic) to represent the multidisciplinary nature of all modern engineering teams. Your project will be managed by final year MEng students, as well as being mentored by academics and external industry experts.

The challenge set to Design Teams varies each year but past examples include stair-climbing robots, scale model hovercraft and small scale wind turbines. At the end of the module there is a design competition where all the teams come together to compete against each other, which involves lots of friendly rivalry and fun!
