Advanced Professional Development in Perioperative Practice

Module code: OP3024

Clinical context

During the advanced professional development module, you will spend time in the operating theatre department and in other areas of the hospital where you will have the opportunity to experience and demonstrate independently the key transferable skills concomitant with safe and ethical practice as a developing health care professional. The experience within the operating theatres and in the wider hospital environment will provide an insight into the patient’s holistic surgical experience.

You will also be required to gain short (snapshot) experiences in other areas within the wider hospital, healthcare and public sector. These will be arranged with your Clinical Placement Manager/Personal Tutor and will provide opportunities to reflect on the wider aspect of Professional practice in relationship to the healthcare, healthcare management, public service and regulatory bodies.

Academic context

This module will evaluate and assimilate your professional knowledge and experience to the application of all aspects professional practice in healthcare; in addition to this it will evaluate the principles and application of quality assurance tools to clinical care and the contribution of research methodology to this process and its application to clinical practice. You will be encouraged to evaluate how interprofessional collaboration contributes to patient care, safety and effective outcomes. Assessment linked to the academic aspects of the programme will give you the opportunity to use and develop your assignment writing skills.
