Enhanced Perioperative Practice - Anaesthesia

Clinical context
This module is designed to give you the opportunity to learn and demonstrate competence in the recognised enhanced Anaesthetic and Pre- and Post-Anaesthetic skills that are required whilst working in the operating department and other perioperative areas. Students will be given the opportunity to spend time in various clinical specialties and clinical skills centres where you will be able to learn, practice and develop enhanced skills and practice as an accountable, responsible practitioner who works within their role limitations. You will gain an understanding of the broad principles of enhanced peri-operative practice which can in turn be applied in new and evolving roles.
Academic context
This module is designed to give you the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on the enhanced care provided in the peri-operative environment and relate this to your own professional actions. Through the use of evidence-based practice, you will critically analyse and evaluate the role of the ODP in the context of enhanced practice, fostering the concept of a multi-skilled approach to staffing operating theatres. The development of enhanced knowledge and understanding of Operating Department Practice will underpin your learning, enabling you to utilise your transferable skills through the holistic assessment of the individual needs of patients.
