Fundamentals of Evidence Based Practice

Module code: NU1018

This module is facilitated using a combination of lectures and workshops including on-line lectures, Pod casts and practice based learning, delivered in small uni-professional groups and in multi-professional groups that involve students from midwifery and nursing. Lectures will be supported by tutor guided self-directed learning opportunities.

Evidence-based practice is an interdisciplinary approach to clinical practice which is best summarised as the complete, clear and practical use of current best evidence when making decisions about the care you provide to service users, patients and their families.

This module will introduce you to key principles behind evidence-based practice, including its relevance, the role that research plays within it, how to determine which methods are suitable for different problems and the outcome measures you will encounter. You will also develop your ability to examine, interpret and present real-world midwifery and health care data to explain the robustness of the approach taken.
