Celebrity culture is inescapable in today’s society and, whether you adore or criticise them, they still remain the focal point of our media culture. You’ll be using key theories to investigate the study of celebrity to understand how and why so many people consume them through so many different outlets.

The social, cultural and economic function of celebrities will be considered throughout the module to get to grips with their ‘value’, and to discern their underlying cultural significance. You’ll get the chance to reflect upon your own experiences with celebrity culture through analysing the construction of celebrity texts in a variety of forms.
