The Politics of Digital Media
Module code: MS7061
During this module you’ll be looking at how new media engages with governments and international organisations in the global political arena. You’ll look at events like the uprising of the Arab Spring, hacktivism and WikiLeaks and how ICT (information communication technology) played a role in these movements.
While discussing the main theoretical debates around new media you’ll discuss its revolutionary impact, as well as theories on new technology, the digital divide and the regulation of new media. You’ll focus on NGOs, activists and social movements and look at how they organise and fund their operations through ICTs, by considering political and sociopolitical perspectives.
By analysing the anti-globalisation and global justice movement, and the anti-war movement you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the role of politics in digital media.
